Gwesty Gwernan Hotel Lake

Activities in and around Dolgellau

FISHING

The hotel's privately owned 12 acre lake is regularily stocked with rainbow trout and together with the native brown trout is an angler's paradise. Sea trout have also been recorded! Fly fishing only at present from one of the hotel's rowing boats. We are hoping to have 3 fishing platforms in place by summer 2009 for the less intrepid angler (or the ones who like to keep their feet on dry land!).

Special rates are available to hotel residents. Visitors pay £20 per day per rod which includes the boat, bag limit 4, £12 for half a day (2.00pm until dusk) bag limit 2. Please phone 01341 422488 to book.

The National Trust owned Cregennan lakes are situated four miles further up the valley, overlooking the Mawddach Estuary, offering additional fishing.

Visit the Cregennan Lakes website.

BIKING

The Coed y Brenin mountain bike centre is 15 mins by car and we have a safe and secure lockup for bikes and a drying room for wet gear and boots (a must for our climate!)

We are happy to provide packed lunches if required.

THE MAWDDACH TRAIL

This footpath walk and cycle route winds for 9.5 miles (15km) along the disused railway track on the southern edge of the spectacular Mawddach estuary. Whilst the trail can be joined at several points it starts at the picturesque market town of Dolgellau and finishes by crossing the iconic railway bridge over the mouth of the estuary into Barmouth. From the Gwernan it can be joined by taking the scenic rout past the Cregennen Lakes and a descent into Arthog. We provide maps and packed lunches at the hotel.

Visit The Mawddach Trail website.
